MULTIPISTAS #5

While there are plenty of post-punk and orchestral art rock bands vying for attention, there is a searing originality that marks Flip Top Head apart. The six-piece group from Brighton showcase the full range of their influences on their debut EP ‘Up Like A Weather Balloon’...

The band tells me what represents “Britainicana”: The La’s, Johnny Roadhouse, Violent Femmes, Chappell Roan, and Back to the Future. It feels limitless. “We grew up smothered by American media – films, TV, all of it,” Murphy explains. “Like with everything, when you’re a kid, you seek to emulate it. But you live in rural north-west England. You’re not on the Sunset Strip, or Manhattan,” he continues, earning chuckles in agreement.

Rather than reject those borrowed influences, they transmute them by reimagining Americana through the British DIY tradition that they know while embracing the contradiction that comes with it. This intention was set from the very start when they played their very first gig as Westside Cowboy in a coffee shop, inspired by their interpretation of early British rock n roll shows: accessible and fuelled by a caffeinated buzz, while being just scuzzy enough to also mirror a punk rock energy.

Their debut single “I’ve Never Met Anyone I Thought I Could Really Love (Until I Met You)” possesses that timelessness and fluidity, a fidgety rush of fuzz and feeling that’s equal parts Pixies, Pavement, and 1960s rock n roll.

MULTIPISTAS #3

tags: experimental Ceira (quem nunca?)

Primeiro avanço do próximo disco, "Encarnação".

lyrics
Semi-semita, fui soprado pelas narinas

Jantámos gafanhotos no Jordão.
E ele ensinou-me q’eu era o filho prometido

tenho fome e quem me viu decidiu ignorar.

Sou a palavra, a labareda larga,

Sou-o desde o berço, desde o berço me aflige.

Eu sou o reino, a raiz, o teu caminho,

Onde acaba o meu trabalho
Eu percebo e não aprendo
E em teoria nunca falho

Fui o primeiro a inventar o amor livre,

AUTOMATIC

With Signal, their 2019 debut album, Izzy Glaudini, Lola Dompé, and Halle Saxon deliberately removed the guitar from their band, creating a vast space filled with many versions of post-punk, dance-rock, and indie music—they crafted their own fonk (with an o), similar to how Devo and ESG groove. They are avant-garde, futuristic musicians, and unsuspecting fans are always being converted—I’ve seen it. Automatic in San Francisco covertly impressing stuffy hipsters (Yep, that’s SF for ya) and overaged, grizzled, skateboarder dudes in the Mission District, who happened to be waiting for headliner Osees, get lost and found in droning, thick layers of murmur. Fans waiting for Julian Casablancas’ new project, The Voidz, I’ve observed get turned on and burned—pleasurably—by Automatic’s crypt-keeper vibes, with dagger-like synths, drumstick hits, and monotone vocals. This trio, which named their band after a song by the Go-Gos—the first all-female band to write their own songs and play their instruments on a number one album in the U.S.—have been doing the work for a long-assed minute. I’m a witness.

MULTIPISTAS #1

A Amsterdam indie stalwarts Pip Blom and Willem Smit, respectively the songwriter & vocal force behind Pip Blom and the driving creative mind behind Personal Trainer, have come together after a decade of intermittent collaborations to launch a new project: Long Fling. The duo's self-titled debut album arrives 10th of October, 2025, unveiling a collection of charming, offbeat guitar and drum machine, kraut-rock tinged anthems, touching on everyday oddities like socks, shoes, and the allure of staying home.

Unlike typical duets, Long Fling doesn’t focus on harmonies or traditional back-and-forth vocals. Instead, Pip and Willem trade lines over minimal, melodic arrangements that reflect their shared sensibilities. The songs are direct but often playful, shaped by a mix of guitars, drum machines, and off-the-cuff lyrics. On stage, Pip and Willem expand the sound with Sal Rubinstein, Darek Mercks, and Tender Blom. (Bandcamp)

Some Like It Hot is also the new album, out October 17th 2025 via Matador Records, by London three-piece bar italia. Certain parallels are perhaps not accidental. It pulses with romance, intrigue, self-discovery and rapture over lustful rockers, spellbinding folk pop, punch-drunk ballads and undefinable moments that sneak up on you like a burst of 5pm sunshine. The record is the culmination of the joint inner world of Nina Cristante, Jezmi Tarik Fehmi and Sam Fenton – three singer-songwriters who have transcended their underground roots to embrace a bold, widescreen horizon.

The synergy of this three-way blunt rotation is embedded in the trio’s DNA. Cristante brings a studied actors’ sensibility to vocals ranging from honeyed (‘Marble Arch’) to hell-bent and possessed (‘rooster’). Fehmi ranges from airy, brooding baritone (‘Lioness’) to mic-chewing megaphone histrionics (‘omni shambles’). Fenton, a wispy tenor, can veer between mystical melodicism and soaring blue-eyed soul within the same 8 bars (‘Plastered’).

Leatherette is a quintet.

Leatherette have announced the release of their third album 'Ritmo Lento' on 28th November via Bronson Recordings.

One of the most intriguing acts of the new Italian indie scene, playing festivals and touring Europe and the UK, and releasing critically acclaimed albums 'Fiesta' (2022) and 'Small Talk' (2024), Leatherette return with a record born from the need to slow down, switch off the autopilot, and rediscover the essence of songs without worrying about fitting them into a genre.

'Ritmo Lento' is a record of atmospheres that perfectly balances catchy melodies, sing-along choruses, fuzzy cavalcades, and more reflective moments. The very title of the album, Ritmo Lento (“Slow Rhythm” in Italian), speaks of this dialectic: the constant tension between frenzy and pause, neurosis and breath, the desire to accelerate and the need to stop. The vinyl is divided into two distinct sides: six impetuous and catchy tracks and six denser, more meditative ones, like an inner diary of contrasts.
